Mark SchraderCaptain and Project Director
Mark was a member of the First Team in 1982. He has two single-handed circumnavigations of the world and was the first American to singled-handedly circumnavigate the world via the five Southern Capes in 1982-3. He has lived in Washington State for over 35 years and is an avid marine conservationsist and wildlife advocate. |
Herb McCormickWatch Captain
Herb McCormick is a native of Rhode Island and a graduate of Williams College. He is the former editor of Cruising World magazine and has also been the sailing correspondent/ sports writer for the New York Times. A veteran ocean racer, he has competed in the Newport to Bermuda, Pacific Cup, Transpac, Sydney to Hobart and cruised and raced from Alaska to Antartica. He is the co-author of Out There, a book about the first BOC Challenge. |

David ThoresonWatch Captain
An Iowa native, David was the first American sailor in history to transit the Northwest Passage from east to west in 2007. He has sailed twice above the Arctic Circle and has three Atlantic crossings. From 1986 to 1987 David bicycled 10,000 miles solo around the US and Canada. He is a water quality advocate, owns a photography gallery, races scows and currently has a traveling exhibit that features cultural and climate change issues. He serves as the cameraman and photographer aboard Ocean Watch. |
David LoganFirst Mate
David calls Seattle home but loves to travel the world. He was responsible for logistics and shore support for the 1982-83 circumnavigation and is a veteran ocean cruiser and racing sailor who has crossed the Pacific five times. He owns a cabinet and fine furniture business and is a long time marine conservation advocate. Aboard Ocean Watch he is responsible for yacht preparation, on board systems and logistics. |
