The Mexican resort city of Puerto Vallarta is located on the Pacific Ocean’s Bahia de Banderas. Roughly half of the city’s economy comes from the tourist industry with the other half coming from agriculture, industrial and commercial enterprises. Cruise ships arrive almost very day as well as an occasional U.S. Navy frigate. The Mexican navy also maintains a base at the port. Recently, there has been an increase in jellyfish blooms which have made many of the local beaches questionable for swimming.
