Halifax is the capital of Nova Scotia, located on Halifax Peninsula, on the west side of the harbor, west of Dartmouth. Its port is one of the country’s most prominent, located in the world’s second largest natural harbor. The coast of Nova Scotia stretches 4,750 miles (7,600 km) with over 100 beaches. The ocean is never more than 2 hours away from any point on the island. Maritime heritage is celebrated along the historic waterfront and during an assortment of celebrations including classic boat festivals, scallop days, lobster carnivals and riverfront music jubilees.
